Kathleen S. Carey, CPA, CFP™ is a director in the Tax Department at Freed Maxick & Battaglia, CPAs and also has overall responsibility for the firm's Enterprise Advisory Services Group. Ms. Carey’s areas of expertise include estate and trust taxation, fiduciary and estate accounting, pension and employee benefits and individual taxation. Ms. Carey also chairs the firm’s pension administration department. She achieved the designation Certified Financial Planner™ in September 2003. Ms. Carey is past President of the Buffalo Chapter of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPAs). She has also served as chairperson of both the Federal and State Taxation Committee and the Management Consulting Services Committee. Ms. Carey has also served as Co-Chair of the Annual Tax Institute, an annual event sponsored by the Buffalo Chapter of the NYSSCPAs, the Erie County Bar Association, and the University of Buffalo. Ms. Carey is also a member of the tax section of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). Ms. Carey is a graduate of Niagara University and the AICPA national Tax Institute. She is very active in community events and non-profit organizations. She currently serves on the Board of Managers for the Buffalo Museum of Science.
