Evaluation of PerformanceRecruiting, Hiring and Evaluation Performance

Freed Maxick & Battaglia has benefited from a successful “team approach” to recruiting, whereby employees who are recent alumni of area colleges and universities get actively involved in visiting campuses and meeting with potential candidates. Applicants interview not just with the HR department and the hiring manager, but also with all levels of staff, including peers and subordinates. Hiring decisions are made with input from the team. This team approach provides a solid introduction for new employees to our Firm’s corporate culture.

A strong recruiting point for us is the belief that employees must enjoy well-rounded lives, professionally and personally. That’s why the Firm encourages a healthy work/life balance through organizing activities outside of the workplace, with many geared toward spending time with family. The Firm’s unique sociable culture is evident at annual events like the picnic, holiday party, Corporate Challenge run in Delaware Park and end of tax season celebrations. In addition, the Firm purchases employee tickets for Bills games and Sabres games. There are Firm softball and bowling teams, too.

Freed Maxick & Battaglia’s team concept also applies to the annual employee evaluation process. For the last several years, Freed Maxick has used an on-line evaluation system where an employee and their Performance Advisor together select the individuals who will participate in evaluating his or her performance. A combination of supervisors, peers and subordinates provide appropriate feedback in determining the appropriate development process for each employee.
