Matt Dobson is a Senior Manager in Freed Maxick’s Assurance and Transaction Advisory Practices. He joined the firm in 2013 and has worked in public accounting since 2010. Before joining Freed, Matt worked in the British Isles for a Big 4 accounting firm, where he qualified with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) and from which he holds the Fellow Chartered Accountant (FCA) designation. After moving to the USA, he became a CPA. Matt is an active member of the Chartered Accountants Worldwide USA Network.
In 2024, Matt helped launch and now co-leads the firm’s cannabis practice, bringing clarity and structure to one of the fastest-changing industries out there. He works closely with cannabis businesses to streamline operations—everything from inventory tracking and cost allocation to day-to-day accounting and financial reporting. Matt’s focus is on helping owners make smarter, data-driven decisions, improve cash flow, and navigate the complex tax landscape shaped by IRC 280E. His goal: to give business leaders the insight and tools they need to grow sustainably in a tightly regulated environment.
As part of Freed's commitment to the industry, Matt attends cannabis focused continuing education, including the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants' annual cannabis conference and attends industry focused networking events locally.
