It’s an exciting time in Buffalo for food lovers, as the announcement came this week of the famous Dinosaur Bar-B-Que opening a restaurant at 301 Franklin Street during the summer of 2013. Starting back in 1983 and settling first in Syracuse, NY, Dinosaur founder John Stage has opened restaurants in Rochester, Troy, Harlem, and its first out-of-state location in Newark NJ opened its doors in May 2012.

Winning numerous awards and honors for their sauces and foods, I am personally very excited about the opening of one of the tastiest restaurants I’ve ever been to. I’ve been to the Rochester location before, and the food was phenomenal. My first experience eating fried green tomatoes was awesome to say the least.

The Buffalo location downtown was previously used to store film reels, and John Stage said in a Buffalo News interview, that the building has vaults where they used to store films back in the day. Dinosaur Bar-B-Que likes to keep the architectural integrity of buildings, and the Buffalo location will be about 7,200 square feet, seating about 180 diners. New locations are also planned for Stamford, Conn., this year, and a Brooklyn location also in 2013.

While the exciting news of a Dinosaur Bar-B-Que opening in Buffalo, you can’t forget the other awesome eats around the downtown area that make Buffalo so great.

I went to lunch at the new Pan American Grill and Brewery in the Hotel Lafayette to see if the new restaurant was any good. I got the BBQ chicken, since I had a craving for it after hearing the news about the new Dinosaur restaurant opening next year. For an appetizer, I had a three cheese and garlic flatbread, which was small yet shareable. The meal was awesome, with fresh asparagus, french fries, and a great atmosphere.  It was definitely a great choice for lunch downtown. But don’t forget about these other great places to grab a bite to eat in the Buffalo area!
