At the recent “Gift of Life Celebration” event for the Northeast Kidney Foundation of Greater Buffalo, I took part in a very meaningful way. I helped present the Jeff Stolzenburg Legacy Award, named for my father, a former employee of Freed Maxick, to local hospital organization Erie County Medical Center (ECMC).
Each year the “Gift of Life Celebration” is held to celebrate the work of the Foundation and pay tribute to those that make their work possible. The event, held April 18 at Brookfield Country Club included honorees:
Contributions to Healthcare Award: Dr. George N. Marinides, MD, PhD, FASN
Jeff Stolzenburg Legacy Award: Erie County Medical Center (ECMC)
Public Service Award: Honorable Crystal Peoples-Stokes
Renal Clinician of the Year: Kristine Reed, RN, BSN, Renal Nurse Clinician
There was also the very moving story of a local dialysis patient, who shared her experiences with kidney disease and her transplant. At one point during the event, the organization honored all of the kidney donors and recipients who were present, and announced the number of years they’ve been living with their new kidneys.
The Northeast Kidney Foundation is a voluntary health organization dedicated to preventing kidney disease and enhancing the lives of all those affected. Formed in 1974 as a philanthropic gift of Edwin and Rhoda Sperber, the Foundation provides services to patients, family members, the general public and clinical and academic professionals throughout the Northeast.
The mission of the Northeast Kidney Foundation is to improve the quality of life of those affected by kidney disease and related conditions through early identification, intervention, prevention and support services; to promote organ donation; and to empower those we serve to be an effective voice for better healthcare at the local, state and federal levels.
Support of the Northeast Kidney Foundation provides vital funding for patient and family services; patient, public and clinical education; local research programs; and healthcare advocacy. Please consider joining their efforts!
