Earlier this month, Freed Maxick was invited to participate in the First Job Fair Boot Camp at Niagara University.

Mike Skowronski and the team from NU’s Career Center put together a terrific agenda of experts to provide their insight, knowledge and professional tips for beginning a career search. Stephanie Newman, Assisted Director of the Career Center, gave opening remarks and then Tim Finney from Alcott Group, John Bourdage from Bourdage Consulting and Anna Wright from Cole Haan gave presentations on Effectively Networking, Elevator Speech and How to Dress for Success.

Additional seminars on LinkedIn, resume preparation and starting a Federal job search were given by Cara Valentine, a Niagara intern, Dave LaDuca from Cintas, Holly Nowak from Alcott Group, Judith Phillips from the US Army Corps of Engineers and Robert Healy, the Veteran Services Coordinator from NU. Multiple additional employers were also in attendance to field specific questions from the students regarding resume critiquing, interviewing tips, etc.

The students learned what to wear to an interview, how to initiate a professional conversation with someone they’ve never met before, and how the clubs they’re in now on campus are providing them with unique opportunities to make future business contacts.

The relaxed and informational tone at the Gallagher Center gave students the opportunity to speak to recruiters one-on-one in a welcoming atmosphere. Participation was excellent.

Congratulations to Niagara on a terrific program and many thanks for inviting Freed Maxick!
