Looking for a fun, free way to challenge yourself physically, mentally, and socially this summer? You have to check out some of the free outdoor classes at Canalside! A year or so ago, you would never expect to walk along the Buffalo waterfront and see about 100 people on the lawn taking a fitness class, but that’s exactly what you will find almost any day of the week this summer. And did I mention these classes are completely free?!
Last Friday, Keon, Jessica, Kristy and I braved the rain and went to a Power Yoga class, presented by Power Yoga Buffalo. When I think of a yoga class, I usually think of stretching, posing, and a lot of relaxation – which was not the case with Power Yoga! This class is fast paced, challenging, and a lot of fun. We laughed through most of it, especially when one of us would awkwardly try to figure out a new position, or lose our balance. One of the best parts about this class in particular is that it’s designed for all fitness levels – I would look to my left and see someone falling over, and look to my right and saw someone mastering a handstand! It’s a welcoming atmosphere where everyone in the class is supportive, no matter what you are capable of doing. There were only about fifteen of us because of the rainy weather, but it gave us a chance to get a lot of personal attention and help from our instructor. We all agreed we can’t wait to go back to another class soon!
Power Yoga classes are held every Friday night from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. and every Saturday morning from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. But these aren’t the only free classes offered each week. Canalside also has Barre, Zumba, Boot Camp, and a variety of others. Even if you aren’t interested in working out there are so many activities and events scheduled at Canalside each day.
