Howard A. Rein, CPA, CFE  - Mr. Rein heads the firm's ABL Services practice, which operates nationally and provides asset-based lending (ABL) field examination services to the Commercial Finance Industry.  He has performed pre-loan surveys, collateral monitoring and forensic exams of troubled loans involving fraud.  He has regularly assisted clients in obtaining bank financing, mergers and acquisitions, budgeting, and bankruptcy and workout matters.

Mr. Rein’s responsibilities includes the development of lender relationships, technical service delivery, review and supervision of staff, and compliance with lender requirements.  Mr. Rein has been assisting the Commercial Finance Industry for more than fifteen years in the delivery of ABL field examinations. 

Mr. Rein has a BS degree in Accounting from the State University of New York at Binghamton in 1976 and has been with Freed Maxick for 25 years.  Mr. Rein’s professional credentials include licenses as a Certified Public Accountant and Certified Fraud Examiner.  A renowned expert in fraud detection and prevention, Mr. Rein frequently provides educational lectures on fraud awareness from a lender’s perspective throughout the US and internationally.  He is also a contributing author for asset based industry periodicals such as The Secured Lender and the ABF Journal.  His articles include:  Detection of Fraud in an Asset-Based Lending Field Exam and Orchestrating a Successful Outsourcing Field Exam.

Mr. Rein joined Freed Maxick & Battaglia, CPAs, PC in 1980, after having worked for a national "Big 6" firm, and was elected as a Director in the Firm in 1990. Mr. Rein is on the Board of Directors of the Jewish Center of Greater Buffalo and Shea's Performing Arts Center.  He is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and an officer of the Board of Directors of the Buffalo Chapter of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants.  Mr. Rein is also on the Board of Directors of the Commercial Finance Association (CFA) Education Foundation, Inc. and the Upstate New York Turnaround Management Association (TMA).
